Young RYLA
2011 Status Report for 2/16 RM RYLA Board Conference Call
-JC’s have been selected- read through applications,
selected top 20 to interview then chose 6 new JC’s from that list. Focused strongly on balancing the Colors of
the team, and looked for passionate, energetic, confident individuals with a
strong understanding of the program and their role as a JC.
-Give
JC List
-Have
received commitment from all speakers
and support staff
· Corey Ciochetti,
Dave Boon, Leo, Wayne Markel, Peter Aquino, District Governors. We are still inquiring about two individuals
through Jim Hoops and The Colorado Summit for Walk of Possibilities.
-Have
gone through entire program and made a few minor changes:
· 4 Way Test
will be incorporated into Tues/ Wed Matrix and related to Core Values. Will be presented by SC, JC to be an example of core
values. SC/JC will explain a time when they have used the 4 Way Test.
· Swept Away
moved to Monday matrix so that it can be in conjunction with My Life List; Me Quit, Never
· True Colors
will be shortened to 1 hour and 15 minutes, and changed slightly
· Skip Prep
moved out of matrix right after True Colors
· Kick Ball
will be changed to “RYLA Ball” and counselors will have already prepared set of
rules to allow for the benefits from kickball without the conflict
· Walk of Possibilities- no longer utilizing Mike Donahue’s expertise and still in
search of replacements. The camp will be
split into two and done by two people.
· Thursday has been changed the most:
o
After pictures and a WOF, Youth for Biodiversity
will start off the day. It will be done
differently this year (explain)
o
Comedy Club will be moved to Thurs morning to
avoid concerns about following Take A
Look Around
o
Rotary Youth Programs moved out of Wednesday matrix to
Thurs. We feel it is important to have
these in the part of the week where we focus on what you will do with them
after YRYLA.
o
Call to Action will be extended and improved,
still working on exactly how to incorporate
o
Thursday twilight time will be AFTER dinner, BEFORE dance
to keep kids focused allow for a more meaningful final Twilight Time and allow
time for administrative needs (6:30-8:00)
o
Dance
will be pushed back, 8-10pm
· Friday we will extend the pick up
time from 12 to 12:30 in order to have a
final short time with our teams right before
closing speakers, slideshow, etc. Asking to push pick up time to 12:30 (explain
why)
-Working
now on improving the "Call to Action" from last year with emphasis on
taking leadership back into communities by the conferees.
-Timeline:
By
end of March: SC’s will be chosen, inventory will be done
By
end of April- Training will be planned
By
May- Manual will be edited and in its final draft form.
-Saturday
March 12th in Boulder we will have a Meet and Greet with the entire team of new and veteran JC’s to get acquainted
and begin the process of getting feedback on ideas from the entire team.
