Subject: RYLA 25th Update
All:
Yes, yes, this is very late. The last meeting was in October with Murph, Doug and myself. All of the comments below are where we are now and subject to change after coordination with the RYLA Chair, Kelly Albright, Jim Hoops, etc. If you are copied on this email it means we want not only to inform you, we need your input about the plan and information on the history. A draft is being prepared by the veterans (kind of like WW II vintage so memories are starting to fade) and will be to you shortly.
· Goals are Fun, Fellowship and celebration of RM RYLA and all its youth leadership conferences
· The celebration will be on Saturday, July 16, at about check in at 3:00, program begins at 4 pm, dinner at 5 PM; speakers at 5:45 PM
· Invitees are all past counselors, DGs, club reps (?) and ???? Looking to have 100 or more guests.
· Will have online reservations and guestbook for RSVPs and those who cannot come. Each will be asked to share a short comment..”What Made RYLA for Them”…or something like that.
· The walls of Willome will be decorated with the banners (as usual) AND the conferee, counselor (JC and SC) shirts from each of the past 25 years…to the extent we can round them up.
· Program will be at Willome and be kind of like a regular RYLA check-in (complete with ice breakers) and Rotary meeting with:
o Master of Ceremonies –(some nominees already suggested are Jim Hoops, Heather Amen, Kimra Perkins, Bill Manning)
o Word of Focus
o Pledge
o 4-Way Test
o Introductions (this could take a while)
o Video with excepts from the past (10-20 minutes)
o Dinner (choices are Willome or the dining hall)
o Dessert and speakers (8-10 of 2-3 minutes each of My Favorite RYLA Moments or Story). Will be at Willome
o 7 PM All Done…time to visit go to Brewery for those who want to.
· The cost will be $18 per person and should make the entire function at least break even.
And so, there is lots of work to do and volunteers are needed to put together a video, gather shirts (I think Murph, Doug and I have most of them…but not all!), set up the reservation page on the RYLA website (Dave?); put together the mailing list for both Districts, etc., etc., etc.
Our next meeting will be NLT the end of February, probably teleconference. If these minutes are O.K., I’ll send them to the Board and others that can help. I would like to have a teleconference by the 15th as the Board is meeting on the 16th so please let me know what evening would be best. Thanks, Kevin
