We’re right in the middle of
the JC Application period, which ends November 30.
Deadlines and Numbers
All of this year's RYLA
graduates received a letter of instructions for applying to be a JC. I'm open to
wording improvements in the letter, but sefore
suggesting improvements, please click on the link in the news section of
www.rmRYLA.org and read those instructions too! They go together!
Number of JC applicants so
far: 59
- At least one or two that are garbage
- Curt spotted a couple of possibilities in the SC
Applications – we’ll handle those.
I emphasized several times
in the letter to the JC applicants to START EARLY!
I'm gone from next Friday,
November 25 through Saturday, Dec 3, so if anyone has troubles during that
time, well, sorry!
I normally send a reminder
e-mail or two, but I have a technical problem with sending mass e-mails (the
ISP disappeared):
- Sending these causes ISP's to label me a spammer and
turn me off (for a couple of years).
- I'll search for a replacement, but will have
difficulties sending mass e-mails for a while.
Receiving counselor
recommendations:
- We've used the system for a couple of years for that.
- They're instantly visible to Head JC's and Chairs, as
June mentioned.
- But, it shows them under the counselor's name, not
the applicant's.
Curt requested that
counselors e-mail recommendations to him this year. We're experimenting with
ways to make the process easier to manage.
Preparing to train Head JC's
for viewing applicants
(and Chairs, except this year's Chairs are also Reps and already
know how to use the system). Emily O'Boyle volunteered to train the other Head
JC's.
Main issues
Currently
experimenting with methods for registering two sets of Young RYLArians. No specific configuration has been finalized yet.
The plan is to have that in place by January 31 – it’s
needed February 15.

Please keep in mind that we
need replacements - even more this year because of the two
Young RYLA's! Also realize that, of the 2nd-year JC's who assisted,
EVERY ONE of them went on to become either a Head JC or sidekick!
